IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
Sportsmatch funds already invested in community sports projects
As a result of unprecedented demand for funding, Sportsmatch is unable to accept any further applications for funding for the remainder of the financial year 2007-08. All the available funding for 2007-08 (£3.44m) has been allocated to projects faster than ever before. The budget has been matched by sponsorship funding bringing the total investment to almost £7m. This is a great deal for community sport.
This is testament to the hard work of the Sportsmatch Team and the commitment of its partners and sponsors. Most importantly, it means clubs across the country have already secured funds and are delivering projects to drive up participation in community sport.
Sportsmatch is an exchequer funded programme. That means that future funding (from April 2008 onwards) is dependent on the outcome of the comprehensive spending review due to be concluded in the autumn. Subject to the outcome of the comprehensive spending review Sport England will continue to offer small grants funding and seek matched private sector sponsorship.
Sport England is communicating this message directly to prospective applicants and Sportsmatch partners. We will issue future updates via the Sport England and Sportsmatch websites.
